Although some believe that trust and innocence are the essential components of manipulation, The Crucible by Arthur Miller provides evidence that gullibility and force are the essential components of manipulation.
The essential components of manipulation are gullibility and force because one must be gullible enough to believe in what you are trying to get them to do, but also you need force in order to achieve what you are trying to manipulate someone to do. In The Crucible by Arthur Miller, Abigail says, “She made me do it! She made Betty do it! […] She sends her spirit on me in church; she makes me laugh at prayer! […] I always hear her laughing in my sleep. I hear her singing her Barbados songs and tempting me with—“(Miller 1260). Here the components are being used because Abigail and Betty were forced by Tituba to do as she says and the people were gullible to believe that this actually happens.
Furthermore, others may say that the essential components to manipulation would be trust and innocence. In The Crucible by Arthur miller, Abigail says, “No one was naked! You mistake yourself uncle” and Reverend Parris responds with, “I saw It! Now tell me true, Abigail” (Miller 1239). Here Abig...
