Thomas Jefferson once said, “the greatest danger to American Freedom is a government that ignores the constitution, which brings to problem with politics.” So many people from different political parties are disagreeing with one another, thus causing division. As an American citizen, it just for the U.S. to revert to principles the United States founded on, which was the constitution.
2016 democratic candidate Bernie Sanders frequently expressed to the American public how wealth should be distributed. According to Sanders, the government should redistribute the working class’s income tax to the poor or another class of individuals. Contrary to Socialist Americans’ beliefs, this idea is not in the constitution. Bernie supporters bring up the fact that the sixteenth amendment mentions taxes. Although the sixteenth amendment does state “Congress shall have power to lay and collect taxes on incomes, from whatever source derived, without apportionment among the several states, and without regard to any census or enumeration,” this does not mean the government has the power to redistribute wealth. This being it differs with James Madison’s General Welfare that protects U.S. citizens that are in need. Liberals seek to challenge the status quo and praise a woman’s choice to perform an abortion while condemning the 2nd amendment baffles many constitution supporters. Once again political genius Bernie Sanders provides insight on how political issues should be handled. Sanders says, “if you see someone loading a gun inside a house call 911.” But he also says, “ the decision about abortion must remain a decision for the woman, her family, and physician to make, not the government. It is certainly fair to make such a statement considering Sander’s political affiliation. However, American lives are much more important than Sander’s political stances.
