Neither Romeo or Juliet was looking for love on that night of the feast. Both Romeo and Juliet were not interested in finding love that night. When Juliet was talking of love and marriage she said "It is an honour I dream not of" (I. iii. 70). They could have never imagined what their chance meeting would lead to. Because Romeo and Juliet exalt free will with their voices and actions, they come to their demises in this conflicting, fate-dominated world. Fate brought them together. But it was their own free will that fatally separated them.
Romeo made his own choices throughout the play. Romeo sometimes acted too quickly but it was always his own free will. He did not want to go to the feast, he said "I have a soul of lead so stakes me to the ground I cannot move " (I. III. 15-16). Romeo did not want to go to the feast but eventually he chose to go. After seeing Juliet, he says he never knew love until now. After finding out that she was a Capulet, he says "O dear account! My life is my foe's debt" (I. v. 26. ). Saying those words, he still decided to proceed with his pursuit of Juliet even though he knew it could be dangerous.
