In today's society, many teens spend their days on any form of social media and very commonly Instagram. Instagram, a picture sharing platform, has become very popular in recent years. Pictures of food, nature, people and pictures of the many users themselves, are just some of the content one might come across while browsing this type of social media. Although this platform may be seen as a safe environment where one can share their life with others, that is not always the case. Instagram can be a negative space for a lot of people that share their pictures of their lives, especially girls. Girls are in a no-win situation in the Instagram world because it is all about girls competing with one another to see who can appear to be the best, boys have skewed judgments based on what the media tells them and the worlds unrealistic expectations on what makes a girl perfect.

When it comes to adding profiles online, most people look at celebrity trends and copy what they are doing. Whether its posing a certain way or one filming themselves doing a dance, there is always a mainstream activity. Since most people post about what is current, those who do not follow the trends usually get judged for straying away from the current trends. To avoid the judgement of others, some girls do post pictures mimicking the poses that celebrities have done. Some girls even go to the extreme when it comes to changing who they are that they completely loose who they actually were before trying to fit in. Although it is expected of girls to conform to the trends, girl often get backlash for doing so. Whether they stay true to who they are or change themselves, girls will always be judged for interests and appearances by the media and the world as a whole.
