1. Explain in detail how the theories relating to communication in general and more specifically to non-verbal communication, impact the effectiveness of electronic communication (i.e. email, text, etc.) as a communication medium within organizations.
Effective communication is a vital part of everyday life, it is a necessary skill for effective management of persons and teams within an organization and it is crucial in social/work groups; decision-making; exercising authority and guidance; managing and resolving conflict; negotiating agreements; affecting personal and organizational change; and the overall leadership and management of all organizational undertakings. “Our ability to communicate one-on-one, in groups, in teams, in larger audiences, online, and anywhere else there is information exchanges, is fundamental in achieving both personal and organizational goals.” (Module 7) The process we elect to use impacts individual, group and overall organizational behaviour.
According to Wikipedia: Communication Theory is defined as: “a field of information theory and mathematics that studies the technical process of information and the process of human communication.” And “Nonverbal communication between people is communication through sending and receiving wordless cues.” Such as: “use of visual cues such as body language, distance and physical environments/appearance, of voice and of touch, it can also include the use of time and eye contact and the actions of looking while talking and listening, frequency of glances, patterns of fixation, pupil dilation, and blink rate.”
