Hunger In America Family Public Policy Assignment

784 words - 4 pages

When I hear about people going hungry, especially young kids, it really makes me sad and looks at life differently. It teaches me to be grateful for everything I have and the things I receive from people. In Jackson, Mississippi, where I am from, poverty is all through each and every society, and it is really bad. I see a lot of poor elderly people mostly but never understood why they are poor. I think if the government provide better programs everywhere throughout the United States, there would be fewer poor people and better opportunities for single parents. My immediate thoughts be who are their parents and what type of situation they are in and what can I possibly do to help he or them eat and survive throughout their lives.

Since reading about it, my viewpoints have changed tremendously about hunger in America. It is very sad to be hungry and poor, but at the same time, you can't put yourself in a situation to be that way, especially as a single parent. Growing up in Jackson, I saw a lot of poor people, but I never really knew what It meant and why are they in a situation like this. Being the person that I am today makes me look at life as being grateful. When somebody gives or buys me something, I learn to be grateful even when I don't like it because it's the thought that counts, and some people(poor) don't even get it.

I feel as if fighting against poverty is the main argument, especially when you are a single parent (woman). It is the children in these families who will suffer the most. I blame the government for that because if you are a single parent, food stamps should not be cut anytime because if so, it is sometimes harder to feed their kids, especially if it's about three kids. I feel that way because children are not only in danger of losing the food they need, they are in danger of their homes and mothers as well. Children don't deserve that at all, but as a parent, you would want that for your child to be in foster care instead of being homeless on the street. Foster care. Child Welfare League of America said, "Parents will survive as long as they can, ...
