Soraya Crim Inaugural Address

Fellow citizens, I stand before you today, extremely honored, and humble, to have been chosen
as the next President of the United States. In my eyes, president is merely a job title. I am like
you all, a citizen who wishes to see change in the government and its public counterparts. I was a
woman in the crowd, looking up upon the podium, where the 44th President of the United States
stated his inaugural address. I was a woman who, like you all, voted for change. History has had
many presidents, presidents of all kinds: caring, hard-working, passionate, understanding, and
so-on. Today, history has a woman, who is and will be all of those things and more. I am forever
grateful to be the first.
This country has seen dark times in these past few years, dark times that have yet to see a
solution. I, today, have been chosen by the people of America to be the solution. I stand before
you to accept this role as an aid to this country. I, just as you, yearn to see improvement in the
many systems that have led to increases in violence and poverty and environmental damage. The
Earth is the only planet (known in humanity) we have to call home. I intend to make it a safe and
clean place to live.
We have all heard the phrase “Nothing Lasts Forever” at some point in our lives. It is very
universal, and can be applied to anything, figuratively and literally. The Earth is a large planet,
and we have discovered things that have benefited the people for decades. However, resources
