America and Great Britain created it in order to prevent war against each other. It was signed and put into effect in 1794-1795. The treaty's main principles were created by Alexander Hamilton , George Washington, and John Jay himself.It's main purposes was to make peace between the U.S and Britain, which it achieved for about ten years, and to increase trade. Though there were those that agree with the document, there were also those that opposed it's views. Thomas Jefferson and James Madison primarily disagreed with the treaty because they felt that republican values would be weaken and the federalists' relationship with Great Britain would grow stronger. The results of this treaty weren't so good. Peace between the two nations only lasted for a short time and the differences that both of the countries had when trying to make a back up treaty eventually led to the War of 1812.
