Though he did it in a much more confronting manner. Even though it was the same sermon preached at Northampton earlier with very little result, this time around was different. The Spirit of God was moving about the people. To quote Edwards good friend Wheelock, who was a witness to the speech "These thoughtless people were bowed down with an awful conviction of their sin and danger". Clearly the conviction of the Holy Spirit convicted their hearts to them and greatly impacted their wellbeing.Years later Jonathan was fired from his home church over an argument about communion. Jonathan strongly leaned towards what the Bible says about one who is true compared to what the church believed that anyone could participate.Shortly after being convinced to get a vaccination for smallpox he had an allergic reaction that made him bedridden and shortly after this he said "Now where is Jesus of Nazareth, my true and never failing friend?" and he then lapsed into unconsciousness but then suddenly opened his mouth and mumbled "Trust in God, and you need not fear". Jonathan died March 22nd 1758 due to the result of an allergic reaction to a smallpox vaccination.
