La Otra Conquista: Reflexión
Como todos sabemos, la conquista de las Américas o “el nuevo mundo” tuvo un efecto
político y demográfico que alteró y cambió la historia del mundo por siempre; sin embargo, es
importante reconocer el efecto que este último tuvo sobre la población y civilizaciones de las
Américas. Precisamente, La película titulada “La Otra Conquista” nos provee con un vistazo de
cómo fue severamente afectada la población de las Américas con la llegada de los
conquistadores españoles alrededor del siglo XIV. Aunque indiscutiblemente, “La Otra
Conquista” es una obra de ficción, esta está basada en hechos reales y no se abstiene de mostrar
los terribles e innombrables actos de violencia física, epistémica e intelectual que las
civilizaciones nativas sufrieron a causa de la conquista europea.
Desde el comienzo podemos ver que los conquistadores se presentan como un grupo de
gente muy violenta dado a que estos incitan una matanza o masacre donde miles de habitantes de
Tenochtitlan son asesinados en el sitio del Templo Mayor. Este suceso se nos es presentado
como un evento extremadamente doloroso, ya que el personaje principal de la película;
Topiltzin, sufre gracias a la pérdida no solo de su gente, sino también del templo u obra de
arquitectura que para él no solo es una construcción más; si no también representa su religión,
costumbres, su fe, y su forma de ver el mundo.
A percepción propia, la destrucción del Templo Mayor es una de las muchas formas de
violencia epistémica e intelectual en esta película; ya que su propósito principal era destruir y
agredir el instinto religioso, intelectual y moral de la gente nativa ya que su forma de vida era
extremadamente apegada a la religión; como es descrito por la sociedad de Arqueología
Mexicana en un artículo del año 1987: “​Su destrucción era inaplazable, pues después del
