Comparing the social democratic party in the UK ‘new labour’ (1990-2010) and the modern liberal government of Barack Obama (2009-2016)
The both governments intervene to solve the problem of the unemployment in order to achieve an equal society, as The new labour government has attempted to return back the unemployed people to the workplace in 1997 by the new deal program that has been established by the earnings of the windfall taxes that have been imposed on private services, while Barack Obama also helped reduce the unemployment rate through the unemployment benefit extension (2009-2013) that expanded the benefits of the unemployment for more 26 weeks to help the dismissed people and are looking for jobs to get the benefits that are managed by the state. (Rockman, Rudalevige & Campbell, 2012; Marshall 2009).
The both governments believe in the importance of the education and consider it as the essential foundation of the society that help the people flourish and develop. The labour Market concentrated on increasing the expenses on the state education, as it increased them by almost the double in 1997, while Barack Obama also concentrated on increasing teachers’ salaries through the “National Education Assembly” and believed in the merit pay for teachers. Obama also believed that the college education should be allowed for everyone as it’s their own right. Both governments consider the health care as a right that should be allowed for everyone in the society, as The New Labour increased the amount of resources specified to The National Health Service, while Obama’s health care reforms appeared in the nation protection and affordable care act 2010.
