The day I decided to have a baby was momentous. It was the decision to allow my beating heart forever to walk outside my body. Although that seems a little bazaar and far-fetched, I love my baby, who was once born outside my body—a love unlike any other pet and a love you can't prepare for.
When my child was born, another birth was happening right there in that same room; The birth of a new me. You spend countless days and hours planning and predicting this new life, but nothing can prepare you for the real thing. I remember being handed this little person like, "here, you look like you could keep this thing alive," and all I thought was dang! "Is it too late to give it back? Where are the directions with this thing?
The labor and delivery seem like only a blur to me now. I remember it as if it were a television show staring at me. I will never forget the morning of November 9th, 2008. The universe was whispering, "Pattie, it's your time." I got up, made breakfast, and began my day. Not knowing on this day, I would start my lifelong journey as a mom. Even though It was a day before my due date, I didn't take it easy; I kicked it up a notch! I ran, jumped, skipped, and hopped around. I was trying to start my labor naturally. I ate spicy food and took scorching skin-peeling baths. But nothing worked. I soon grew tired and decided to give up. Then smack dab in the middle of me making a delicious ham & cheese sandwich, something amazing happened.
