"Workforce diversity is the presence of differences based on gender, race and ethnicity, age, able-bodiedness and sexual orientation" (Schermerhorn, 2003, pp 4). Sears has benefited from a multicultural workforce. Diversity has benefited dozens of organizations when competing in the world marketplace. Very few companies today can afford not to take advantage of America's diversity in creating workforces filled with cultures that reflect our international marketplace."Latino buyers have 560 billion dollars to spent and African Americans and Asian Americans consumers spend 825 billion combined".(HR.com) so hiring employees of a diverse background are a competitive advantage. Other businesses could learn from Sears Roebuck and Co., which have found that qualified people of all backgrounds are an asset to businesses reaching out to nontraditional markets. It all boils down to business. Diversity is the right thing to do, and it's also a key component of a business success.Most companies stand up for what right, day is in and day out, and it has a positive impact.
