Personal Cultures Essay

979 words - 4 pages

Culture has effected our lives in one way or another, and if we like it or not. Think about it, it's a chance you wouldn't have the same religion, the same rules, the same thoughts, the same idea to what's right or wrong, etc. Many family patterns that my family participates in are: prayer, dining together, discussing world events, and personal opinions/beliefs. Our family is very busy; it is seldom when both my parents' are home before 6 PM. My family is very open to cultural diversity. My grandparents and great-grandparents are not as diverse, they can be racist at times and I don't blame them because they were born and raised that way. If you were raised in an old fashioned way you will be old fashioned in your future. My family hikes, goes to movies, camps, helps the community, goes to concerts, supports my siblings extra curricular activities. Some of clubs were in are: drama club, music club, hiking clubs, theater production, and homework club. Some of the miscellaneous things we do are football, basketball, baseball, skateboarding, snowboarding, track, swimming, wrestling , boxing, play guitar, play cello, computer, and telephone. My family's rules are strict; my step dad's father was in the military. There is a precise bedtime, my friends have to meet my parents before I come over to their house or spend the night, we must walk the dogs every day, even homework has to be checked. Also, my parents need to know where we are at all times, we need to do an after school activity, run a mile 3 times a week, and no cursing. Some more are no F's, no talking back, hair not be in too long, no more than 2 friends over at a time, no more than 2 people/guests spending the night. The traditions we have in this family are Dim Sun (restaurant) every Christmas for Christmas dinner, Christmas breakfast at home, and Christmas Eve at step-grandparents house. Thanksgiving at the Tacoma house, and Easter egg hunt at the house in Tacoma with Easter dinner. We go to Ohio every summer, and go to Rogues Hollow when we're in Ohio. My grandparents (mother's side) come visit every spring and we hike with our step-dad every Sunday. For our food traditions, it is too much to put this on paper; but we usually have keen (seaweed) and rice for dinner every night, a lot of Italian/Asian mixture food. Some of Italian food on my moms' side is; pasta, fish, egg plant, zucchini, and Italian bread. Some Asian food my family eats are Kim chi, bulgogi, kalbi, teriyaki, sushi, tempura, dim sun, mongolian be...
