The three women on the right have "normal" faces. However, the two women on the left have features similar to African masks. Not only are those two women darker in shade, but their features also have sharper lines. When one focuses on this work, they should also pay attention to the actual subject. The name of the painting, Les Demoiselles d'Avignon, translates to "The Young Ladies of the Street." This implies that they are streetwalkers or prostitutes. When one focuses on the painting, he or she can notice that one of the women is holding up a piece of cloth to her waist. This means that she is naked and so are the other women. This is not initially apparent in this version of the work. However, it is obvious that the ladies are nude in a colorful version of the work.In conclusion, Les Demoiselles d'Avignon is a good example of a work in which the artists interpretation was the major influence on the end piece. Picasso was famous for this type of work and his work revolutionized art.
