The End of Abortion?
Within the first six weeks of a pregnancy the baby’s heartbeat can usually be detected. Within two months of pregnancy the neural tube which develops the spinal cord, the brain and other central nervous system nerve tissues is well formed. At this point of the pregnancy the baby is well developed, many will argue that the baby now sustains the right to life. Many other will argue that the fetus is not a person, and that abortion deserves no condemnation. Abortion is a very controversial topic, one of which affects the man, woman child. Almost everyone has an opinion on abortion and many people have many different views on the topic due to be it religious beliefs, morals, medical views or ethicality.
Abortion as defined by the 2012 Merriam-Webster dictionary is, “the termination of a pregnancy after, accompanied by, resulting in, or closely followed by the death of the embryo or fetus as a spontaneous expulsion of a human fetus during the first 12 weeks of gestation--miscarriage, the induced expulsion of a human fetus, or the expulsion of a fetus by a domestic animal often due to infection at any time before completion of pregnancy.” Abortions have always been around and will probably always be a controversial topic in which not everyone will agree. Therefore they believe that the abortion at any stage of the pregnancy is considered murder and this I agree with. They believe that life is valuable and the life of the unborn baby has the same rights as the mother. Pro-choice affiliates say that those who are against abortion are against women’s rights and free choice instead of the termination of an embryo or fetus. As I stated before abortions have been around for a long while, thousands of years and as a more and more centralized government has been formed the topic of abortion has always been around, and around the 1800’s it became illegal to perform. Due to lack of medical advancements and education, the process of getting an abortion for a woman was extremely dangerous. If you go into the topic of how abortions are performed and what is necessary to evacuate that fetus from inside a human body you can understand why it could be quite the dangerous and grueling surgical procedure. For this very reason is why it was illegal back then. But many women would still try to get their way and perform back alley surgeries which lead to the harm of thousands of women. The American Medical Association concluded that abortions were immoral and unsafe. This...
