Temporary means that every project has definite beginning and definite end. Unique means that the product or service is different in some distinguishing way from all other products or services. For many organizations, projects are a means to respond to those requests that cannot be addressed within the organization's normal operational limits. Projects are undertaken at all levels of the organization. They may involve a single person or many thousands. Their duration ranges from a few weeks to more then five years. Projects may involve a single unit of the organization or may cross organizational boundaries, as in joint ventures and partnering. The project has some major elements:Scope - What we are delivering?Cost - Who is needed to complete the project? What other resources do we need? How much do we need of each? How much will they cost?Time - How are we generating the deliverables? How long will it take us to generate them?Quality - To what quality standard or measurement are we developing the deliverable? How good should it be? How good is the process being used? How good are the people and incoming materials?Risk - How sure or confident are we of the conditions surrounding the project and that we can complete the project according to the plan?Project Management is the application of knowledge, skills, tools, and techniques to project activities to meet project requirements. Project Management is accomplished through the use of the processes such as: initiating, planning, executing, controlling, and closing. The term project management is something used to describe an organizational approach to the management of ongoing operations.
