Many kids around the world are born with diseases and body dysfunctions every year and suffer most of their childhood trying to break free from them. St. Jude Children’s Hospital has helped many kids fight of dangerous diseases to help them have another chance at life. St. Jude’s mission is to advance cures and means of prevention for any catastrophic disease through research and development, and no child shall be denied treatment because of his or her race, religion, or a family's ability to pay. The motto of the medical center is , “ no child should die in the dawn of life”. The majority of their funding comes from individual contributions so this is the main reason parents do not have to pay for a bill when treating a child.
St. Jude Hospital was founded and first opened on February 4, 1962 by Danny Thomas at a young age. As a symbol of hope for every patient, a statue of St. Jude Thaddeus was built in front of the first building and still stands today. Since the day of its opening, St. Jude Hospital has become one of the world’s leading pediatric research institutions. In the 1970 St. Jude announced that Leukemia could now be called a curable disease using chemotherapy and radiation. Two years after the survival rate for Leukemia had shot up to fifty percent which was a big achievement that revolutionized Leukemia therapy all around the world.
With all the income St. Jude makes, they will not spend their money on personal use, but instead on the families they treat so parents can focus more on their child and medicine for them. From first opening St. Jude’s treatments have helped raise the overall percentage of childhood cancer survival rates from below twenty percent to eighty percent. By 2002 St. Jude had become so popular with handling kids that they made a website called Cure 4 Kids which is a free and open online meeting place for clinical discussions of childhood catastrophic diseases. Today, St. Jude has become the number one children’s hospital treating patients all around the world and has progressed so much from first being a dream to a fulfilled reality.
In my opinion St. Jude Hospital Has done an outstanding job with what they do from being one children’s hospital to having hundreds around the world. They have saved millions of lives over the past years and I hope to one day see that no more children may die from a catastrophic disease. Being born with these issues can make a huge impact on someone's life in just a few words and determine how your life will turn out. I hope that one day every procedure goes well and finally everyone can live happy disease free lives without having to worry if you will wake up in the morning to see a new day.
St. Jude has done so much for many people around the world and has help beat many battles against diseases for children who were in need of the help. St. Jude has strived to stopping these diseases and once they have officially stop, I believe that they can go even further and stop all diseases. St. Jude never makes a family pay a bill because they would rather you pay much more attention to your child in need than another bill. If I were to recommend any hospital for child care I would recommend the nearest St. Jude hospital because of their fabulous work.
