A Rose For Emily
In this short story “ A Rose For Emily” by William Faulkner is very intriguing and quite unusual. I was quite shocked after reading it the first time. (Yes, I read it probably five or six times before I started.) How could someone anyone be capable of such a thing so discussing to say the least. I was confused while reading through the story by the way it was written. I wasn’t reading it actively the first time I read it I just wanted to get a just of the story. I actually missed a few things the first time I read it I had to go through it probably three or four times. I was lost until I reached the ending and then I understood the way the author structured the story. It became clear to me that the story was written out of order for a reason. After reading it for a second time I could see certain events are foreshadowed throughout the entire story. One thing that is clear in this story is if a parent choses to shelter their child their entire life, they will cease to develop emotionally or socially as a result, and people with this background can be prone to unpredictable behavior without the proper guidance. Emily was sheltered as a child by her father he didn’t let her do anything really. Emily was high class and expected to act as so in the community. Emily’s father chased away every boy that tried to court her never letting her leave his side basically. When he died she couldn’t even bring herself to believe it she wouldn’t let go of his decaying body for three days. Now that’s just insane. She didn’t want to feel alone because he was the only person she had ever. That was the time when they should of started to worry about Emily but instead they just brushed it off.
