Othello - Desdemona
Desdemona plays an important role in Shakespeare’s novel, Othello. In terms of characteristics, Desdemona is a very caring, helpful and honest person. Comment by Elizabeth Kamnik: Good clear thesis stating 3 characteristics! :)
First off, Desdemona is a very caring character. For example, she’s always worried about her husband’s well being. On p.65, Othello was not acting like himself, so Desdemona asked what was wrong. When Othello responded that he had a headache, she began to immediately care for him by wiping his forehead with a handkerchief, comforting him with her words and telling Othello that she will try and ease his pain. This demonstrates that Desdemona is caring because caring means displaying kindness and concern for others, which Desdemona is doing. She is concerned about Othello’s health and displaying kindness by trying to make him feel better. Comment by Elizabeth Kamnik: 1st characteristic - very well explained!
Secondly, Desdemona is very helpful towards others. She is a helpful character because throughout the whole book, the basic plot is that Desdemona is trying to help Cassio get his job back. A specific example is on p.55, when Cassio is worried that Desdemona isn’t helping him get his job back and Desdemona says “Rest assured, good Cassio, that I am doing everything I can to help you”. This shows that Desdemona is helpful because...
