Student Success Exploration PaperIn Life there are roads and there are choices. The right or left turn you make along the winding path throughout your life is and should be the one that makes you happy. Furthering your education may be your best and only way to make that right decision. At the present moment I am now currently attending Valencia Community College working towards my Associate Degree in Computer Science. My current major is Computer Science, although Computer Engineering with a focus in Software is what I will most likely pursue as my Bachelor of Arts (BA). Computer Science/Engineering is one of the most popular and fastest growing careers today. Today, computers are used in ...view middle of the document...

UCF offers strong components in aerospace engineering, business, education, film, health, nursing, social sciences, and tourism. UCF's programs in communication and the fine arts help to meet the cultural and recreational needs of a growing metropolitan area. The University also offers many graduate programs leading to masters and doctoral degrees. UCF is about 20-25 miles from my location in Northwest Orlando. Although I will not be living on campus, there are 8,000 students that live in residence halls, apartment-style options, and Greek housing. The five aspects of this university that interest me are: location, multicultural student body, easy access to and from home, various programs to participate in, as well as that UCF is an accredited university. As with all colleges, transferring students have a more likely chance of getting accepted, rather than freshmen students who directly apply. The reason for this is that most core classes, or prerequisites can be taken at another university and then those applicable credits may be transferred. The prerequisites that I must take before entering to UCF to pursue my BA degree in Computer Engineering are: 9 Hours of Communications Courses (ENC1101, ENC1102, and SPC1016); 9 Hours Of History Or Cultural Classes; 7 Hours of Math; 6 Hours of Social Foundations; and 7 Hours of Science Foundations for my basic classes. I have attached a copy of both program course requirements for Valencia as well as UCF. Three of these prerequisite courses are: English, Math and Science, which are all essential to almost every degree with acceptance into this program because it is not a selected, limited access or a restricted access program. Students who are pursuing this major will need to have a minimum of a 2.0 GPA as well as any other basic transfer requirements to be accepted into this program. The steps that I will need to take to help myself transition from a 2-year college to a 4-year university is as follows:1. Before Completing the A.A.degree- Meet with counselor or advisor for graduation check- Complete application for graduation2. Complete an Application for Admission to UCF- Submit my application and promptly follow up on my application status3. Transcripts (original transcript from all institutions attended)- Ensure all transcripts are sent from all current and prior institutions- Ensure final transcript is sent after term completed4. Financial Aid/Scholarship- Complete and finalize all financial aid information to be sent to UCF.- If required submit all scholarship information on applications.5. Immunization- Obtain a student health form and submit before term begins.6. Orientation- Be sure to finalize my acceptance to UCF, fulfill any other requirements to my program, and then be sure to make it on time for orientation to my 4-year university. The total amount of my educational expenses at the conclusion of my bachelor's degree including expenses from my 2-year university, roughly totals $21,000. At UCF...
