The Chrysalids- Week 1

Describe the setting including place and time.
The Chrysalids is set in a town called Waknuk on the island of Labrador. Waknuk is set into the future. There was some type of event that happened called The Tribulation. This event left the people in the village some technology. David lives in a town threatened by mutants of the fringes. Fringes is a place full of danger and mutations.
Outline what you know about the main characters. Who are they? What do they do? What do they look like?
David Storm- David is the narrator of the story. David can communicate to others using his telepathy. David is left handed. Probably strong due to him working on a farm.
Sophie- Sophie is a girl born with six toes. Brown curly hair, she has a small face, suntanned and sparkly eyes
Joseph Storm- Joseph is David’s father. Joseph is strongly against mutants or people that aren’t “normal”. He is abusive because he almost beat David up with a ship.
Uncle Axel- Uncle Axel is David’s uncle. He is tall, not skinny or not fat, seasoned look, sturdy, one crippled leg, bushy grey eyebrows and is also tanned.
Explain the initial incident at the beginning of the novel. What is the first thing that happens?
David went out one day, when he is confronted by a girl who wants to use his slide. Her name was Sophie, at first there is nothing unusual about her.
