“The Ones Who Walk Away from Omelas”
After reading “The Ones Who Walk Away from Omelas.” I’ve noticed that this short story expresses plenty of imagery. Also, that this story gives you the opportunity to really think about what is going on in this society. What would you do if you were in such a situation. Would you give up your happiness for someone else sadness. In the short story The Ones Who Walks Away from Omelas this society is put on a pedestal. Its compared to as a Utopia.A place where they weren't simple folks , a place that was so perfect there weren't any monarchy. “I did not know the rules and laws of their society ,but i suspect that they were singularly few.” (761 Le Guin) Perhaps Omlea could be the next Utopia but its not likely. In fact, they strive and proceed with their lives through one individuals agony.
Omela a place no one would ever want to leave, living in such a quintessential society. The symbolism i took from this story is the colors ,which also reflects imagery to how much of a flawless place Omela is . The roofs were red , the color red is known for capturing attention. It’s a stimulating color that usually provides a sense of protection from fears and anxiety. Something the people in this society don’t come across. “..the silence of the broad green meadows one could hear the music winding through the streets..”. (761 Le Guin) The color green represents abundance , peace and healing . A feeling that everyone in that city feels except for one unfortunate person. One who is a child, that lives in a cellar in...
