Essay #2: Current Events and Analysis
Thus far, we’ve discussed various aspects of argumentation and logical thought. You’ve all done
a sound job thinking through these concepts in class. Now, your task is to apply these concepts in
your own written analysis.
Topic and Purpose: Take a position on a current events issue and evaluate the current debate.
Here, your current events issue is the ongoing wild vs. farm-raised salmon debate. Please find
three articles regarding wild vs. farm-raised salmon production in the folder labeled “Assignment
#2” inside the Assignments tab. You will also find a PDF copy of this prompt. Evaluate the
three pieces of writing for logical flaws, rhetorical purpose, organization, and evidence for
claims.
New research is constantly produced, old arguments augmented, and new arguments fashioned.
Consider the wider argument of wild vs. farm-raised, and then support your analysis of the topic
with evidence from the three articles. Just as you wrote you wrote Essay #1 relying on a single
source, you are now drawing upon three sources.
