404 words - 2 pages

Access to the Internet continues to grow around the world, and the main users are students or people searching for some kind of information. Recently, plenty of online courses have been created, and a lot of books are available in the Internet. So nowadays the Internet is considered to be the main, the most important and the most convenient way of getting information. But is that really so?In my opinion, there some basic differences between reading from paper text and reading from a computer screen. There are a ...view middle of the document...

For this reason, most computer reading is likely to take place in fewer locations than paper-based reading.Than, the brightness and resolution of most computer screens means that extra strain may be placed on the eyes when it comes to reading. American scientists proved that the average reader is not able to read effectively for as long periods of time as when reading printed text.Further more, the reading speed for an average computer reader is probably significantly slower than that for a printed text reader. A study by Nielsen (1997a), for instance, suggests that reading from a computer screen may be about 25% slower than reading from print. Also, Other physical factors such as posture and the repetitive use of a mouse and keyboard may also impinge on the learning styles of individuals and may even result in physical ailments which deter people from using a computer. Repetitive Strain Injuries, for example, are common health complaints of computer users. To conclude, I would like to tell that the Internet makes harm for the health, so people should not abuse it. Sometimes it is better to spend some hours with a book lying on the sofa, than to sit in front of the monitor with red inflamed eyes.
