Hi everyone, I’m Jenny. Today I am going to talk about Chinese New Year. As everyone knows, Christmas in the most important festival in America, UK and so on. However, Chinese people never celebrate Christmas, because we have our own festival—Chinese New Year. Chinese new year starts with the first new moon to the first full moon in a year. The traditional Chinese calendar is based on the combination of the lunar. The lunar cycle is about 29.5 (twenty-nine point five) days, but now people not use this lunar calendar that often that’s why Chinese New year is in the different day and different month every year.
Christmas has a story about it and Chinese new year also has a story. Legendary, there was a monster called ‘Nian’. Every new year eve, it will go to the village, eat the food and kill the villagers especially young children. One day, there was a old man came to that village, put the firecrackers on the door and he was wearing the red clothes. In the night time, ‘Nian’ heard the sound of the firecrackers, it just ran away. Then people who lived in that village wanted to commemorate the old man who get the monster away, so in the new year, people will light the firecracker, wear red clothes and named the new year eve-‘Nian”.
