Reflection
Music is the root to much joy, to expression, the capability to reference to something. Music is the tool that many individuals rely on to connectivity to their traditions, culture, etc. It helps individuals clarifying who they are, their gender norms, their likings, etc. Music provokes emotions in people and upraises discussions that not a lot of media is capable of doing.
The thing with media, it is constantly evolving for better or for worse. In stance, it can be a tool that brings awareness to an issue in society or it can be a tool used to insult an issue in society. Society expands and music evolves to represent something. Music to me is the way I am able to express myself to people, essentially to myself because I pick my music on the lyrics it is saying rather than the tune nor the rapper because it expresses how I feel or how I see myself. Music is my escape goat on being able to say what I am feeling or want to do without having to say it.
Understanding the RIOT GRRRL, it served as a purpose to help express the liberation of women in any genre of music. In any case, women are sexualized and seen to only bring sex to the table because of their body and moves and why? We are more than sex, more than our bodies, more than what some male can do. As in How Bikini Kill Sparked the Riot-Grrrl Movement mentioned common topics that women face on a daily basis, “consciousness-raising meetings were held. Discussions often focused on nonmusical issues: sexual abuse, feelings of insecurity, the lack of a female cohort.”
