The author of "The Language of Prejudice" by Gordon Allport, he considered that words play a significant role to make up a language to be prejudice and to be discriminate. We apply nouns to label people based of origin, race, color, religion, ethnicity and we also do classify and categorize them based on their appearance and social groups that results of stereotype, and judgment without considering the ability and characteristic of certain individuals.
In the beginning, Allport personifies the grains of sand as a people that will be categorized by identifying them in order to recognize them easily and the pail symbolizes the noun that categorizes the identified grains of sand. " a noun abstract from a concrete reality some one feature and assembles different concrete realities only with respect to this one feature" (Dumas 365). We use nouns to label people based on traits of specific individuals and attach it to stereotype a group of people. However, Allport argues that using nouns to define and classify peoples' identity is not a valid approach to people because it can connotate to the words of racism and discrimination.
