1. What did Young think would be a good way to create social mobility in British society? Young was a person who fundamentally believed in meritocracy. He thought that if people from all classes get opportunities to have a higher education, social mobility will come eventually. He founded the Open University in 1969. Which became the largest academic institution in the UK by enrollment. He didn’t consider education only for social mobility, he also believed that education enlightens people and make them more conscious about their country and surroundings. Education opens new doors and sharpens our skills to make us ready to face challenges in the real world.

Most parents would want advantages for their children even if it comes unfairly. The wealthy parents are going to use their extra money to give their children an easier financial path. Wealthy people would not want their children to suffer and create their own future rather they would give all the unfair advantages they can provide just to make their children’s lives easier. When it happens the children are not part of the meritocracy formula anymore even if they are highly educated. They are the one who are causing meritocracy to disappear and class divisions to live and thrive for their whole life.
