What it means to be an American? It means a lot to be an American. Especially now after what happened on September 11th. That is what it means to be an American.Being an American means that you have certain rights that cannot be taken away. In other countries people are treated horribly and have no rights. In America we have it good. If someone treats us unjust we can go to court and fight it. We have freedom of speech. If someone wanted to voice their opinion they could. They could say whatever they wanted and most of the time not be prosecuted for it. We have laws against racism, other countries don't. Other countries don't have these rights that, if you think about would be very hard to live without. Being an American means being free.Being an American means that we are different. We are republic, and a good one at that. It means that we are different than all other places in the world. With our laws and culture. You can pretty much do what you want when you want, and say what you want when you want. We can get a job were we want, build a house where we like and even live in a tent in the woods if we please. Being an American means that we can do what we want because of freedom.In conclusion being an American means a lot. It means being able to come together in times of need. It means being able to have freedom of speech and religion. It also means that since we are free we can do what we want to do whenever. Being an American means being the best that you can be.
