Assignment On Where It All Began

771 words - 4 pages

I wake up to the sound of my 3-year-old crying for her dad, who's a million miles away in sleep. I wait a minute to see if she'll fall back into a soundless sleep, hoping I won't have to move from my comfy position to console. I drowsily and slowly walk into her room, seeing her distraught as her usually tan smooth skin is as white as a ghost, tears cascading down her face and red puffy eyes. I instantly rush and tower over her while keeping quiet simultaneously. I pick her plump sleepy body up, then rock her back and forth till I can hear her ragged breathing transforming into calm, steady breaths. Once I know for sure she's asleep, I press my rosy, soft lips to her dulcet forehead and walk back to my room with her on my hip. I lay in bed thinking back to the day. Everything changed like a flick of a switch. A phone call is where it all began.

I had been anticipating this day for the past two weeks. Today is the day I receive the waiting call on whether or not i get the interior designing position. The only con is that it's in America. My profound thoughts were interrupted when the booming sound of a phone echoed throughout my apartment. I picked the phone up as serenely and professionally as possible. The person on the other line started talking, but the only thing running through my head was, 'I can't believe it; this can't be happening'. This was repeated over and over until the phone call ended. I can't believe it; this can't be happening. I was officially moving to America, I was officially getting a job, and I was officially an Interior Designer. This made me jump with joy with a palpitating heart, not caring if my neighbors could hear me.

Blu Jam Caf instantly became my favorite due to its famous Migas. I was sitting in the rustic corner booth looking out into the city-lit night.
