Who’s At Fault: Romeo & Juliet Persuasive Essay
Who is responsible for this tragedy!? A play written by William Shakespeare, Romeo and Juliet, is about two lovers from different families that fall in love, get married, then shortly after die, but who was the most responsible for the death of these two star crossed lovers?. I believe Friar Laurence is responsible for the deaths of Romeo and Juliet for the following reasons: Friar decided to marry the two despite the conflict between the two families. He sent some else to send the letter to Romeo. He also decided to leave Juliet at the last minute.
Not minding the conflict between the Montague’s and the Capulet’s, the Friar still married Romeo and Juliet. By marrying the two, he believed the marriage would end the feud between the two families. “For this alliance may so happy prove/ To turn your households’ rancour to pure love”. “In one respect I’ll thy assistant be”. Here he agrees to marry Romeo and Juliet. He knew that the two families wouldn’t get along with each other, so this makes him partially responsible for the death of Romeo and Juliet.
Friar made the mistake of sending someone else to send the letter to Romeo. Instead of sending the message with Balthasar, someone he knew well, he sent the letter with Friar John. “In this resolve I’ll send a friar with seed to Mantua, with my letter to thy lord”. Friar fails to deliver the message to Romeo, which in the end resulted in his death. I believe he should have sent the message himself, so that he could make sure it was delivered and approved by Romeo.
Finally, Friar left Juliet at the last minute when she really needed him the most. He selfishly ran away avoiding getting caught, but doing this led to the death of Juliet. “Stay not to question, for the Watch is coming, come go, good Juliet. I dare no longer stay. This is the time when Juliet need him the most, but he decided to leave. This resulted in Juliet killing her self.
I believe Friar Laurence is the most responsible for the death of Romeo and Juliet. He did not properly think through how we was going to marry the two. Thinking marrying the two would end the feud between the families was not right! He also made a mistake by sending some else to deliver the message to Romeo ,when he could have sent someone he knew better or sent it himself. Finally, he left Juliet at the last minute, which resulted in her killing herself. These are the reasons why Friar is responsible for the death of Romeo and Juliet.
