The field of Pharmacy is a very demanding wide open field, filled with diversity, and many available opportunities. I feel that it will be very rewarding and beneficial to my life as well as the lives of others. Although I have always been a nurturing, compassionate, and caring person when it comes to helping others, my sense of direction as to choosing a career path became more definite during my junior year in high school. At that time, I was diagnosed with Thyroid Disease and placed on medications along with placed in a patient study survey. This surprisingly situation prompted me to began researching the disease along with the medications that were given to make me better and treat my situation. My inquisitiveness of the different types of drugs led me to more research and toward the career opportunity of becoming a Pharmacist. This health condition, along with helping to take care of my grandmother, also instilled in me a mission to give back to others in the healthcare setting.
My interest has always been in the field of biology which is the primary reason that I took all of the accelerated mathematics and science classes in high school. Those particular courses were considered to be my strongest subject areas and great preparatory classes toward entering in the field of Biology with a concentration in Pharmacy on the college level. As I began to further research the career opportunity, I realized that pharmacy didn’t only concern the dispensing of drugs, counting pill, filling prescriptions, and helping to make people feel better.
It also strongly entailed other areas in healthcare and clinical services relating to providing for the wellbeing of others. In addition while going through my health process issue, I also had the personal experience of receiving consultation and counseling from the Pharmacist for the use of the medicine which made me knowledgeable of the medication in its entirety and gave me more assurance of that perspective of the field as well. I definitely felt a sense of care and gained an individual relationship just as I would have from the doctor.
