Assignment On The Jail Keepers Pilgrimage

1086 words - 5 pages

There in the shadows, he stood, watching as Christian and Faithful were placed in their cage. Being tossed in the cage was a regular occurrence for pilgrims who had traveled from the City of Destruction through The City of Vanity. This tall, tattered tank of a man had witnessed the stay of many of these occupants. He pondered, "what compelled journeyers to think this was a path that would lead to their elusive destination, Celestial City". Christian and Faithful had proclaim faith in a higher being, still here they are, trapped as many who had come before them.

This brute of a man had absolutely no desire to learn anything about Christian's beliefs, yet he felt an unexplained pull to speak to Christian. Jail Keeper had nothing better to do as he would be here throughout the entire night, so he approached his new prisoners.
As Jail Keeper made his way through the crowd, he could hear town's people, who were there for the fair, taunting and razzing the newest cage dwellers. Christian and Faithful noticed the crowds parting as a man larger and stronger than they'd ever seen marched their direction.

Christian's mind began to race, "is this giant coming to harm us, does he have food, or is he simply here to mock us like all the other people". Faithful was speaking to Christian, encouraging him to keep a sound mind. They could not let the confusing words effect their attitude. They must keep the faith that they would reach Celestial City. Jail Keeper was fighting this unexplained desire to learn who his new captives were. He chose to once again stand back Hucks ! 2 and observe as the town's people began to take sides against one another and not only against Christian and Faithful. What made these two men different from those who had occupied the cage before them? What would they learn when the pair would stand trial? It was odd to Jail Keeper these two had not once spoken to defend themselves against the mockery from the crowds, or retaliate against those who spat false words about them.
As time ticked by, Christian and Faithful grew anxious about what their trial would entail.

The crowd was diminishing as the night was beginning to give way to daybreak. Jail Keeper had been transfixed on the strange way his prisoners were acting. He was still confused as to how two men would endure all the torment the crowd had lashed out to them. Not only did they survive being yelled at, called names, hearing their God being denounced, but they didn't seemed fazed by the confusion of the crowds now bickering amongst themselves either. Not once had they cried out against this angry crowd! He began to question, "were these men special, or were they crazy, or was there truly a higher power that would protect them and give them this strength?" Now, while the witnesses were resting and waiting for the much anticipated trial, he could no longer defend the urge to speak to Christian and Faithful. Jail Keeper approached the cage, Christian and Faithful w...
