THE BIBLE
This book of law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but you shall meditate on it day and night... (Joshua 1:8, World English Bible) Among numerous books I read , The Bible is the one that is so dear to my heart. I cherish it and carry it with me all the time. To some people its just an ordinary story book but to me its an instructional book that guides me in this journey of life. I have 3 bibles as gifts and each was given to me at very crucial stages in my life.
The word " Bible'' comes from Latin and Greek word which means'' book'' it is divided into two parts. The old testament which was written before Christ BC, and the new testaments was written after Christ. AD. There are 66 books in the bible of which 36 formed the old testament and 27 books formed the new testament. The books of the old testament were originally written in Hebrew language and the new testament were originally written in Greek before they were translated into different languages.
I grew up with my maternal grandmother , Mama Sewa of blessed memory and the first time i read the bible i was about age 7 and i was in primary 3 that will be 2nd grade in the United State. Through out my stayed with her, she would read the bible to me every night before we go to bed. Those days I do not understand why she reads the bible to me every night. Anytime I asked her questions she would say to me everything I need in life is in the bible
My grandma gave me the first bible when i was 13 years and in high school. It was a small sized bible with a black cover and was written in our local dialect ewe. Teenage years are very critical period in ones life, and through out the time, the bible has being my guide . I read it daily and this has transformed my life , my faith in God has increased . It helped me to make the right decisions, choose the right people and places I should be and not be . I live by this verse that says ''Everything is permissible , but not eveything is helpful. Everything is permissible but not everything builds up'' ( 1Cor 10:23, International standard version)
