In most cases of "Manic highs" people talk to fast for most to understand and switch from one topic to another at a drop of a hat. They proceed in all sorts of risky activities that they would never normally venture into. During a "Manic high" most go for days without any sleep and spend money very quickly. After your "Manic high" which may last anywhere from days to months, you come to the reality that you are not a superhuman and are struck with horrible depression which leaves you in a subhuman state of deep depression. The thoughts and expectations that were place in front of you yesterday are lost and you are left with defeat. Bipolar disorder is a cycle, that can and will continue on if not treated.There are many different treatments for bipolar disorder. The three main treatments for Bipolar disorder are Psychotherapy, Hospitalization, and Medication (Mental heath net, 1996). Psychotherapy can be used in the treatment of Bipolar disorder. The psychotherapy is mostly to get the individual suffering from bipolar disorder aware of what they are going through, and to build there coping skills. By helping them be aware of the symptoms they can catch them and try to prevent them from exposing in the future. Hospitalization is mostly used during a severe case of manic depression. This is used to insure the safety of the individual that is suffering. Mostly the suffers that become hospitalized suffer from a form of suicidal tendencies. The last method of treatment is medications. This is the most popular chose in treatment of manic depression. Lithium is the drug that is most effective against bipolar disorder. Lithium prevents or decreases the recurrence of additional depression or manic attacks.Bipolar disorder or Manic depression can be serious in some cases but for the most part is safe. Over 1/6 of the population suffers from a form of this disorder. These disorders can be fairly easily treated if the sufferer is willing to undergo treatment. Bipolar disorder isn't a laughing matter and should not be over looked. suffers are at risk if not treated, they are at risk do to the effects which may lead to death or suicide.
