We are making our way through the main text World History Of Warfare in a timely and efficient manner. The students have been given a truly global perspective on the history of warfare digesting essential ideas such as tactics and strategy but also the effects that warfare brings to a wide array of facets to human society. In the coming weeks, the class will begin their major research paper project. Overall, this is a very enjoyable group to teach. They come to class every day with enthusiasm for the subject matter and treat each other with great respect.
James is certainly a unique and enjoyable character. Of course, I already knew this from teaching him last year, and I am really enjoying his presence in the War class. As a student, James possesses an impressive intellect and scholarly acumen. Overall, his writing ability is outstanding. He does a great job of linking ideas together and supporting them with evidence and facts. He is a very active participant in class discussions who raises the bar for his classmates by tethering his ideas to good questions. I am also impressed by his strong sense of himself and his obvious moral compass. He treats his classmates with respect and dignity but also seasons his interactions with the best qualities of the winsome dimensions of his character. James has a sense of humor that is very infectious but so also his is earnestness. His strong work ethic shines through in all areas of the class and I am confident that it will propel him to a strong finish in the class.
PHY315 Introduction to Engineering Andrew Corwin A- 0 0 Effort Grade 2Effort Progress Report It has been great having James in our Introduction to Engineering class this semester! I know James had been trying to get this class in his schedule for some time, and intends to pursue Engineering in college. So far the class has undertaken two projects in the realm of Mechanical Engineering. The first project was the design and construction of a 2-dimensional balsa wood truss that was then destructively tested. The second was an evolved iteration of the first project, this time creating a full balsa wood bridge. James approached both of these projects very effectively, and fully utilized the design process to make some solid contenders in the testing.
However, James does have a tendency to be pessimistic about his designs on test day, confident in unimpressive results. I would recommend that rather than being result-focused, he go into testing proud of what he has done, and curious as to what additional information he can get out of testing. I look forward to seeing the designs James produces...
