Analysis Target: Authors Purpose/ Message
A significant moment in Ayn Rand's "Anthem" is when Equality presents his glowing glass box to the world council of Scholars and is ridiculed for what he has done in secrecy. "We give you the power of the sky!" and "Let us flood our cities with light. Let us bring a new light to men!" I believe they are truly doing the right thing, when others feel the complete opposite, the setting in Anthem isn't the only place where people are criticized for being different and aberrant.
Analysis Targets: Text-to-world connection I can connect the anthem to the current setting of North Korea because of how the government or a greater power has total control over civilian life. North Korea is similar to the anthem setting on page 64 because equality describes his experience "They threw us down upon our knees, and they tied our hand to the iron post. The first blow of the lash felt as if our spine had been cut in two." This excerpt presents the idea of cruel and unusual punishment, which is practiced in North Korea. Through these ideas, I can connect Anthem to our real-life world.
Analysis Target: Inference
From chapter 6, I can infer that Equality will present his light bulb to the home of scholars and would like to share his idea amongst his city because it will make it easier. "We shall join our hands to theirs, and we shall work together, with the power of the sky, for the glory of mankind." He also thinks this will be a good idea because he stays silent about ...
