Cultural experiences and groups can impact, shape, and influence our perception of the world. The beliefs and morals we are raised by for such a long time can cause us to believe that our culture is the only 'right' way to live and we usually become narrow-minded. With that, each culture has a variety of different experiences, and within our cultures, we have been taught lessons, positive or negative, that affect how we see others from separate cultures. Personally, the symbols from my culture group, a star, a bomb, and a pine tree, all represent these lessons that I have been taught to live by.
In my poem, I use a star to illustrate the connection to my religious culture. The star is the best representation of my culture since it is our main religious symbol and contains a deep bond with my identity. Similar to how you can't change who you are, in my culture, it is very sinful to switch religions. Culture and symbolism go hand-in-hand in my poem seeing as that my beliefs hold a strong affiliation to me personally. Therefore, I feel as though, without my religious heritage, I would be missing a powerful component of myself.
