Define Feminist Ethics
Moral theories are the frameworks we use to justify or clarify our position when we ask ourselves, "what should I do in this situation? Or What is right or wrong? According to Collier and Haliburton (2015), feminist ethics focuses on "the ways in which women's expectations, emotions, and desires may have been constructed by the framework and institutions of a patriarchal society(p. 34)."Feminist ethics corrects rationalized biases of women being the subordinate gender and seeks to serve as a corrective to the existing ethical framework to provide new ways of dealing with moral issues by way of revision and reformulation. One of the many goals is to promote women's liberation/emancipation/freedom. It is also committed to eradicating oppression in men and in women by discovering inequality in every form and situation. Feminist ethics are similar to care ethics, in that they focus on the emotional aspect of ethical considerations, which included differentiating the opinions of women from those of men.
Based on Mr. Boucher's scenario, feminist takes insight from women's experiences of moral dilemmas so that new methods of decision-making must be considered to understand more fully the nature of moral life. In addition, feminist ethics begins with particular situations (as stated in the scenario), and out of it, feminist ethics recognizes what furthers or damages full humanity for men and women.
What are the Strengths?
One of the main strengths of feminist ethics is that it acknowledges the significance of correcting social inequity. It also identifies the weakness in moral theories. In addition, feminist ethics focuses on power, exploitation, and discrimination that is useful for health care providers, also on ethical issues such as abortion, genetics testing, and reproductive technologies. Feminist ethics also lies in its ability to serve as a touchstone to evaluate various ethical frameworks aimed at fostering human flourishing. Based on the scenario, Mrs. Boucher's voices, thoughts, and moral reasoning have not been disputed and not taken seriously in moral discourse, as any ethical framework that fosters women's flourishing could also be considered as promoting human flourishing.
What are the Limitations?
