Food -
1. At first the colonists ate porridge, hogs, fish, oysters, and maize (corn). As the Starving time progressed, Instead of beef and pork, the early colonists ate rats, dogs, snakes, horses, wild roots, cats, dogs, and even their own shoe leather.
2. Life for the Jamestown colonists was hard, and conditions were very harsh. The colonists did not have a varied diet; they ate rats, dogs, snakes, horses, and even their shoe leather. The colonists ate so many of these things because it was unsafe for them to leave their fort thus, they were not able to venture far for food and had to eat whatever they could find.
Beads for corn
1&2. I think the colonists traded beads for corn as beads were something of little importance to the colonists, and the Native Americans had never seen beads before, so it was something they wanted. Corn was plentiful for the Native Americans, so it was no inconvenience to them to share this product. The colonists needed this corn very badly as their voyage had taken much longer than expected, so they had eaten all their food which was originally being saved for when they arrived in Jamestown.
