Music : The Importance Of Uniqueness In Success

720 words - 3 pages

A certain image or style is associated with all types of musical artists. A country singer would be expected to wear a cowboy hat, a rock star might never been seen without a guitar nearby, and a classical musician usually will be wearing a tuxedo during a performance. But, when it comes to music such as rap, one artist has definitely defined a unique style for himself. Lil’ Jon’s image is incomparable and consists of wild clothes, flashy jewelry, a one of a kind hair style, many different accessories, and even an entourage.

Artist’s clothes that he/she wears are an important aspect of their success in the music industry. The more wild an outfit is the more attention an artist might get. Lil’ Jon has definitely gotten a lot of attention from just his clothes alone. He can often be found wearing tee shirts extremely to big that go down to his knees, and sometimes a throwback sports jersey over the top to match one of his many pairs of very colorfully wild ...view middle of the document...

But his jewelry is definitely not ordinary. Everything has to be oversized. His watches and bracelets cover his entire wrist. His earrings are the size of his entire ear lobe, and his necklaces reach down past his stomach. And, all of Lil’ Jon’s jewelry is completely encrusted with princess cut diamonds. Because everything has to have diamonds, he has even made his teeth a part of his huge jewelry collection. Having this much jewelry can’t be easy so Lil’ Jon as added an entourage to his image. The Eastside Boyz go everywhere he goes, watching and protecting over Lil’ Jon during interviews and concerts at all times. But, they have still managed to make a name for themselves by just being there and standing in the background.

Lil’ Jon’s clothes and jewelry are very important part of his image as a rap artist, but one more thing that sets him off from his competition is his hair. He wears his hair in dreadlocks. Long, thick brown dreadlocks that reach down just past his shoulders are part of his image that give him a certain edge over the rest off the rap music industry. They must be tidy and kept clean to give him that extra unique style and image.

An image can never be completed without accessories. The famous pimp cup was created by Lil’ Jon, but seems to be used now by more than just him. A pimp cup is a huge gold or platinum coated cup with diamonds all the way around in different designs. It is a must to have your name on your pimp cup just to let everyone know who it belongs to. Another of Lil’ Jon’s accessories to complete his image are his sunglasses. Some people say he is the person responsible for bringing aviator sunglasses back from the past. He wears them everywhere, interviews, concerts, and just to have fun. Oakley Sunglasses has even designed Lil’ Jon his own pair of sunglasses, so anyone can look like Lil’ Jon.

An image is not just what you wear it is who you are and how you act. Lil’ Jon has set a standard for the rap music entertainment industry by innovating new unique ideas into his own image without the fear of failing. Now millions of people across the world are using his style to create an image for themselves. But, Lil’ Jon will still continue to add new and crazy ideas to individualize his own personal style.
