The nonprofit organization chosen for this interview was Community Supports Inc. doing business as Lakeview Terrace Retirement Community. The interview was in person at Lakeview Terrace in the bookkeeping office, and it took place on July 18, 2017, and we started at 12:00 pm, and it lasted until 12:45 pm. The people present during the interview were the Human Resource Coordinator, Melissa Herman, and myself.
The mission of Community Supports Inc. is to promote physical and emotional health and well-being; to enable each individual to live as independently and with as much control and autonomy as possible; To maintain an environment and service delivery system which offers dignity, companionship, contentment, and joy. They envision a maintenance-free lifestyle, protected by a life care insurance plan, at a Lake County, Florida, Continuing Retirement Community. With all the benefits that Lake View Terrace provides, it's no wonder that seniors who reside in life care retirement communities actually live longer and healthier lives.
Melissa Herman has been part of Community Supports Inc. dba Lakeview Terrace Retirement Community since 2009 and has been the HR Coordinator since last August. Her roles before she became the HR coordinator, she moved up in the company. She started as a housekeeper, then a transportation driver for the residents to get to point A to point b every day. Then, she had an opportunity to become the supervisor of transportation, but she turned that down because there was another offer to become an Accounts payable bookkeeper. She did that part-time for a couple of years, then became full-time. As she did this, she was part of HR since she did payroll and new hire paperwork. She then became the HR coordinator started August 2016, and she started advertising job positions to help keep the retirement community flowing.
According to Melissa, "I love working with all the residents and the employees to answer any questions they may have, but it can be challenging" (personal communication, July 18, 2017). The challenges that she may be facing with the job posting, she then seems that she can't keep employees to stay in their position more than 6 months. As working with Melissa helped her promote and encourage the new employees that Lakeview Terrace is the place of working because we have a variety of different personalities with residents here at Lakeview Terrace.
