For centuries doctors have said good health and longevity come with maintaining good
digestion. One good factor for maintaining good health is having a normal range of body pH
balance. First, let me explain that body pH is also known as, the acid base balance and refers to
the regulation of hydrogen ions with body fluids. pH range is 0-14; 0 being completely acidic and
14 being equal to alkaline. (Normal range for your body is somewhere between 7.35 and 7.45.)
It's important to know your pH range because if it's too low or too high it can interfere with
metabolic activities, affect the distribution of other ions, and interfere with hormone balances. If
your body is excessively acidic over a long period of time it may cause heart disease, diabetes,
or even cancer.
A Danish chemist known as Sorensen discovered acid/alkaline levels in 1909. The exact
meaning of pH has been disputed but roughly refers to the power or potential of the hydrogen
ions per litre of solution. It is a known fact that pH is influenced by temperature. For example,
the higher the temperature, the higher the solution becomes. Ph is common in everyday life but
is seldom discussed unless you have symptoms that can be corrected with balancing acid and
bases. We all have buffers in our systems that help pH return to it's normal levels when body
fluids surpass or go below the normal range.
There are some medical conditions that affect the acid/base balance and they a...
