An Ancient and Modern Hero
When people think of epic heroes, they normally imagine someone like Wonder Woman, Batman, or Superman. They are heroes that are strong, loyal, brave, and keep a positive attitude. Beowulf is a hero of the sixteenth century, who possesses the key characteristics of an epic hero. Superman is a hero of the twentieth century, and he holds some of the same character traits as Beowulf does, but Superman balances all the good and the bad in the world. Beowulf and Superman is both strong, loyal, brave, and has the urge to protect people. They will always Fight the evil threats and prevail with a victory (Comparison).
The strength of Beowulf and Superman is obvious, but there are more differences between them than similarities. Superman possesses superhuman strength (magical powers) and the ability to endure physical punishment. When Superman and Batman fought, even though Batman was not fair, Superman still had the ability to overcome what has been thrown at him.
Beowulf only has the capability of human strength. But he makes you wonder if that is all he had, when he strangled Grendel with his bare hands and at the end tearing off Grendel's arm. The loyalty Beowulf and Superman have towards the people is untouchable. Beowulf's actions are clearly motivated by loyalty, starting with his decision to help the Danes. Beowulf traveled with his men to fight a fearsome monster not for the glory of it, but so that he could help his father to repay his debt (Cory). Superman was also loyal to the people, he would bend over backwards for their safety. Also, Lois Lane was his most important person in his life. He would die to keep her out of harm; he even protected her when he was Clark Kent....
