The Bermuda Triangle is one of the most world-famous mysteries in history. The Triangle lies in the North Atlantic Ocean. It covers an area of about 440, 000 miles. The Bermuda Triangle is one of the most traveled shipping areas in the world; ships travel through to get to ports in America, the Caribbean, and Europe. Also known as "Devil's Triangle," it has been blamed for dozens of plane and ship disappearances over the past 100 years. While Christopher Columbus sailed to America through the Bermuda Triangle, he reported in one of his journals that there was a great flame of fire that crashed into the sea one night and was seen again a couple of weeks later. This was just one of the first mysteries of the Triangle. After the 20th century, the public's eye opened and became more aware of the Bermuda Triangle's significance. Since then there have been over 1, 000 lives lost in the area. The most reasonable explanation for all of the missing reports every year is some form of extreme weather.
Flight 19 is one of the most famous Bermuda Triangle plane disappearances. In December 1945, a group of five US Navy Avenger torpedo bombers vanished over the Atlantic just off the coast of Florida. The Avengers were taking a routine training flight. At 2:10 PM on December 5, the Planes took off from a Naval Air Station in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. The plans were scheduled to pursue a three-hour flight to the Bahama Islands known as "Navigation Problem Number One." The flight's leader was Lieutenant Charles C. Taylor. He was a veteran pilot of several combat missions in World War II's Pacific Theater (Andrews).
For reasons that are unclear, Taylor became convinced that his plane's compass was malfunctioning and that he had been flying in the wrong direction. The troubles only escalated after a strong front blew in and brought rain, powerful winds, and heavy clouds. Flight 19 became completely disoriented. While trying to communicate with the patrols back at the base, the pilots were arguing about the directions of the courses they should take to find Ft. Lauderdale. A few minutes later, all communication was lost and there was just static on...
