My Dimensions of Health The dimensions of health are what help classify a person as healthy or unhealthy. A healthy human being is one that is healthy in every aspect of health. One cannot always be judged healthy or unhealthy by body shape, height, or weight. Just because someone looks healthy on the outside does not give any indication of what is going on inside of the body. I personally believe that a healthy self is based upon each person individually, not a worldwide spectrum determined by a majority or even determined by scientists. The guidelines for a healthy all-around life are what we call the dimensions of health. These dimensions of health and wellness consist of six types: physical health, emotional health, intellectual health, spiritual health, social health, and environmental health.
The first dimension of health I will discuss is physical health. This dimension is especially important to me because, as an athlete, it is essential that I continually and regularly evaluate myself to ensure that my body stays in shape and stays healthy according to certain criteria. I participate in a large amount of physical activity a week. It may range from just walking around on campus to playing five games within a two-day span. When volleyball is over, and we are in the off-season, I take the time to rest my body and give it the amount of time it needs to recuperate and get ready for whatever may come next. However, being in the off-season and allowing my body to rest does not necessarily mean that all work is discontinued. I still go to work, still, walk around campus from class to class, and still maintain a light workout in order that my body does not fall out of total routine.
