A. Understanding of Nursing Quality Indicators
Nursing quality indicators are factors that are shown to be directly affected by nursing. The use of restraints and pressure ulcers are two major nursing quality indicators. Religion plays a very important role in most patient care that is provided. Understanding the patient's religion could help nurses determine why the patient was agitated and why he was not eating all of the meals that were provided. Paying attention to the small details and needs of each individual patient will lead to higher-quality patient care.
B. Advancing Quality Patient Care
Hospitals use the data from nursing-sensitive indicators for a. few different reasons. The first is to prove staffing needs. NSI data has proven that the better the staffing, the quality of care that patients receive increases. Hospitals can use their data to compare to other institutions to help identify areas that they are falling in. The continuing education department analyzes the data to determine who needs to be taught what; after teaching has occurred, data can be drawn again to prove the impact of nursing care and, in turn, the reflection of higher quality of care overall during the patient's hospital sta...
