Emission Test which led VW in Crisis.
Volkswagen (VW) admitted that they tested diesel emissions on humans and animals. In January 2018, Volkswagen faced a huge backlash as they gave out false information stating their cars were petrol, when in fact they were diesel. This left them exposed to the public. VW faced a huge criticism in Germany because they tested the emissions on animals and humans, which tricked the public as they believed there was supposed to be no harm to their health. VW sold its vehicles and manipulated countries such as, USA and in Europe by attaching defeat device which will be invisible when testing the vehicle (DiPietro,2018).
The main reasons Volkswagen scammed its customers by selling its diesel cars to sell to US by a vast promotion campaign proclaiming its cars low emissions. The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) found that 482,000 cars sold to US alone, including the VW manufactured Audi A3, and Jetta, Beetle, Golf, and Passat. And also, VW admitted that about 11 million cars worldwide. With 8 million in Europe alone fitted with Defeat- device (DiPietro,2018).
Furthermore, the California Air Resource Board (CARB) was conducting its own test on the vehicles by driving on the road and putting test on their lab. The outcome of the result was shocked on the open road test which the Jetta exceeded US emission average by 15 to 35 times the upper limit and the Passat tested at 5 to 20 times the standard
