Our world is the beginning and the end. Before humankind our Earth was healthy and its inhabitants did not have to worry about the ozone layer or Earth's temperature increasing. Now, along with our many everyday stresses, we have worries about our world heating up; also known as global warming. The sun and the cycle of the "greenhouse effect" is what keeps all of humankind living. The sun aides the weather, climate, and surface temperature of the Earth. Once our Earth receives this energy it radiates it back into space. The "greenhouse effect" is what helps to make our Earth's temperature comfortable and not too low, basically, it is what keeps our world alive and functioning (Global Warmi ...view middle of the document...
According to Pennybacker, nearly half of Americans live in areas where the ozone levels are not healthy. Due to the burning of fossil fuels people with asthma will end up having more severe and frequent symptoms. Thus, constant usage of automobiles is very hazardous to our atmosphere and without intervention soon, our temperatures and sea levels will increase that our Earth will start to sink. Pennybacker proposes some ways in order to help with global warming gases, some of these are: to use electrical appliances in and around the home, drive less or carpool more often, and to get more involved by asking congress to preserve the Clean Air act (2003). "Fossil fuels burned to run cars and trucks, heat homes and businesses, and power factories are responsible for about 98% of U.S. carbon dioxide emissions, 24% of methane emissions, and 18% of nitrous oxide emissions. Increased agriculture, deforestation, landfills, industrial production, and mining also contribute a significant share of emissions" (Global Warming, 2003).Awareness and action is necessary when approaching the social problem of global warming. Today, in order to be more knowledgeable about what is going on in our world people have done research, such as Soon and Baliunas, and made models in order to better understand the way of the chemicals in our atmosphere. In particular there are climate models, such as GCMs which are General Circulation Models, that are being used in order to predict and describe global warming and its relation to the geographical patterns of climate changes from the CO2 being added to the Earth's atmosphere (2003).Everyday our climate is changing and our weather has been known to be, at times, unpredictable. "Increasing concentrations of greenhouse gases are likely to accelerate...
